Companies whose products are incentivized by the Superintendence of the Manaus Free Trade Zone (SUFRAMA) are required to include the expressions "PRODUCED IN THE INDUSTRIAL POLE OF MANAUS" and "DISCOVER THE AMAZON", accompanied by a stylized heron in full flight, in all advertising pieces, sales promotions, and merchandising for their products.
How should visual and audio pieces be presented?
For visual pieces, whether printed or video, the insertion of these expressions must occupy at least 1% of the total area of the advertisement. In audio pieces, the message must be narrated after mentioning the name or brand of the product.
Application on pieces and products
Depending on the type of product, the method of applying the inscriptions may vary. Identification may be made by stamping or engraving on metal parts, embossing or debossing on injected plastics, or even by metalized adhesive labels that are difficult to remove. Products with a display may also show the message on their startup images.
What if the company is unable to comply with the disclosure requirement?
The company may propose alternatives or request an exemption from SUFRAMA in cases where compliance is technically or economically unfeasible. It is essential to obtain formal approval or exemption to ensure the company is protected and not at risk of non-compliance with the agency’s regulations.
Do packaging and manuals also need this identification?
Yes. The packaging and technical manuals of products manufactured in the Industrial Pole of Manaus must contain the required expressions, printed on at least one side of the material.
Are there exceptions to this requirement?
Some products are exempt from these rules, such as components, parts, and pieces marketed within the Industrial Pole of Manaus itself, as well as products intended for export. Products using returnable ("shuttle") packaging are also exempt from this requirement.
Final considerations
The correct disclosure of products benefiting from incentives under the Industrial Pole of Manaus is essential for promoting the region and sustainable development. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in penalties ranging from warnings to project cancellation.
